Italy's Ministry of Culture to join Santa Maria della Scala Foundation

The Siena City Council has approved a preliminary agreement to allow the Italian Ministry of Culture to join the Fondazione Antico Ospedale Santa Maria della Scala. Established in 2021 with a capital of 50,000 euros, the foundation has previously been managed solely by the Municipality of Siena.

Cristiano Leone, president of the foundation since early 2024, stated that strengthening ties with the Ministry is a decisive step toward restoring the institution's national and international standing. The move aims to leverage the site's thousand-year history to enhance cultural programming, research, and protection.

The agreement currently serves as a general framework. Final implementation will require a revision of the foundation's statutes and an official convention to define the specific duties, resources, and powers of all involved parties.
