Italy's New Airport Plan Boosts AAM and Taranto‑Grottaglie Mobility

Italy’s National Airport Plan for 2026‑2035 adds a dedicated chapter on Public Service Charges (OSP) for isolated regions. The inclusion was praised by the Taranto‑Grottaglie Airport Committee as a historic step toward guaranteeing mobility for the ionian area, with committee president Walter Fischetti thanking the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, Minister Matteo Salvini and other officials for recognizing the need to sustain essential air links.

The Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) also used the plan to advance advanced aerial mobility (AAM). It proposes at least six urban vertiports and four airport‑based vertiports in cities such as Milan, Rome, Turin, Venice, Bari and Cortina, and calls for upgrades to 186 existing facilities to host eVTOL and drone operations. Taranto‑Grottaglie Airport is earmarked for sub‑orbital flight development and microsatellite launch support.
