Italy's Obstacle Athletics National Camp Gears Up Athletes for September World Championships

Sixteen top obstacle athletes gathered at the Olympic Preparation Centre in Montelibretti for the first ever national obstacle camp organized by the Italian Federation of Modern Pentathlon (FIPM). Over four days the competitors performed tests and training sessions over 100 m, 400 m and 3 km distances in preparation for the UIPM Obstacle World Championships in Beijing, scheduled for 2–6 September 2026. Andrea Valentini, head of promotion and development at FIPM, said, “Il primo raduno Nazionale ostacoli della Fipm ha visto la partecipazione dei migliori atleti delle sigle Fiocr, Ocra, Ninja e Spartan, selezionati dalle rispettive competizioni.” The next step will be the selection of the squad that will represent Italy at the world event.

The Carabinieri Sports Centre also announced four new entrants: Oliver Mulas, Micol Majori, Matteo Raimondi and Destiny Omodia. Mulas (110 m hurdles) and Majori (5 000 m) will compete at the European Championships in Birmingham from 10–16 August, while Raimondi joins the 4 × 400 m relay team. Omodia, the youngest of the group, earned a European U20 bronze in the 1 000 m relay in 2025. The additions strengthen Italy’s obstacle and middle‑distance programmes ahead of the upcoming international competitions.
