Italy's pasta supply chain generates 14.3 billion euros in value
A strategic report by The European House – Ambrosetti (TEHA Group) for Unione Italiana Food highlights the significant economic impact of the Italian pasta supply chain. The sector is described as a complex economic ecosystem spanning from durum wheat cultivation and milling to processing, logistics, and distribution.
In 2024, the industry generated 5.2 billion euros in direct added value. When accounting for indirect and induced effects, the total value added reaches 14.3 billion euros, representing approximately 0.6% of Italy's national GDP. The extended supply chain involves 143,000 enterprises and supports 78,000 jobs.
Over the last decade, the pasta supply chain has grown faster than the overall Italian economy. Between 2015 and 2025, turnover increased by 5.7 billion euros, with an average annual growth rate of 5.4%, outpacing both the Italian GDP and the broader agrifood sector. The industry also maintains a strong international presence, with approximately six out of every ten packages produced in Italy being exported.
