Italy's Siena and Milan push citizen‑led green urban plans
The municipality of Siena has opened the consultation phase of its new Urban Nature Plan, an initiative to expand and better maintain the city’s green spaces, improve climate resilience and enhance quality of life. A public questionnaire is available online and via municipal channels for residents to suggest priorities, report issues and propose actions for the future green strategy.
In Milan, a youth climate assembly that was part of Milan Green Week presented a comprehensive set of proposals to local authorities and businesses. The plan targets sustainable mobility, urban regeneration, the creation of a 15‑minute city with services close to residents, and greater community management of public spaces. Both initiatives illustrate a growing emphasis on participatory, sustainable urban development in Italian cities.
