Italy's soaring fuel prices strain drivers and small businesses

Motorists across Italy are confronting record fuel costs, with gasoline quoted at €1.99 per litre. One driver in Calabria reported paying €15 for just 7.5 litres, enough for only a few kilometres, and warned that the expense is forcing people to limit trips, avoid seaside outings and reconsider daily necessities. The high price is also hitting petrol station owners, who blame oil companies for the pump rates.

A study by the CGIA research office highlights the broader economic impact on 1,792 road‑based professionals in Ferrara province, including 1,198 commercial agents, 498 transport and moving firms, and 96 taxi and N‑C‑C operators. The province ranks seventh regionally in the number of such activities, underscoring how fuel‑price inflation is eroding margins for a sizable segment of Italy’s logistics and service sectors.
