Neya expands mangrove restoration project in Madagascar

Neya, the benefit arm of the Mundys Group, has launched the second phase of its Ma Honko mangrove restoration programme in Madagascar. The initiative expands the area under restoration from the initial 500 hectares to more than 2 400 hectares, covering the coastal regions of Sofia and Melaky and extending northward.

The project aims to revive degraded mangrove ecosystems, sequester an estimated 755 000 tonnes of CO₂ over the next 20 years, protect coastlines from erosion and preserve biodiversity. It also supports local livelihoods through nursery operations, planting, fishing and beekeeping. To date, 272 hectares have been restored, nearly 1.8 million mangrove seedlings have been planted and 847 nurseries established. Monitoring has recorded endangered species such as the sacred ibis and the Madagascar heron. The work follows Gold‑Standard certification and is endorsed by Neya CEO Roggero Poli and Mundys president Alessandro Benetton.
