Italy's export forecast aims for €700 billion by 2028

SACE’s 2026 Export Report projects Italy’s goods export to grow 2 % in 2026 and accelerate to 2.5 % in 2027, reaching €675 billion. By 2028 the growth rate is expected to hit 2.8 %, pushing total export value above €690 billion and toward the €700 billion target.

The strategy relies on diversifying into about 16 strategic markets – including China, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, India, Brazil, South Korea and others – where export is forecast to rise an average 4.4 % in 2027‑2028, adding roughly €92 billion. Key sectors identified as drivers are instrumental mechanics, transport equipment (especially naval), high‑tech manufacturing, chemicals and pharmaceuticals.

The report, presented in Rome with ministers Antonio Tajani, Adolfo Urso and Lucia Albano in attendance, links the outlook to the SACE50 strategic plan and stresses “RE‑Agire”: turning market complexity into competitiveness. Guglielmo Picchi, SACE president, described the document as a “positive perspective that turns uncertainty into coordinated strategic decisions.”
