Itamar Ben-Gvir accused of using female detainees for political propaganda

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has faced condemnation from human rights organizations following his visit to the female detainees' section at Al-Damun Prison. Rights groups, including the Palestinian Prisoner Club and the Adalah Legal Center, have accused Ben-Gvir of using the detainees for political propaganda and election campaigning by filming himself during the intrusion and publishing the footage.

According to reports, the visit was accompanied by a significant escalation in the mistreatment of Palestinian female detainees. Detainees reported being deprived of personal belongings, denied bathing, and subjected to physical and psychological abuse, including being tied behind their backs and blindfolded.

Furthermore, human rights advocates highlighted deteriorating health conditions within the prison system, specifically noting an outbreak of scabies in Al-Damun and Ofer prisons. There are reports of medical neglect contributing to severe health issues among detainees, including the amputation of a child's foot due to the disease. Organizations are calling for urgent international intervention to investigate these violations and ensure accountability for the treatment of prisoners.
