Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem on Monday, August 31, accompanied by Israeli police, rabbis, and settlers. During the visit, Ben-Gvir performed Talmudic prayers and rituals in the eastern section of the mosque's courtyards. He also made statements regarding the need for a Jewish temple at the site.

Approximately 178 Israeli settlers also entered the compound during the morning incursions to perform religious rituals. The actions have drawn sharp condemnation from Hamas, which described the incursion as a dangerous attempt to Judaize the holy site and a violation of the historical status quo. Jordan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned the visit, calling it a breach of the legal and historical status quo maintained under Jordanian oversight.

The visit occurs amid heightened tensions and comes nearly two months before Israel's scheduled general elections. While non-Muslims are permitted to visit the compound under existing arrangements, they are not allowed to perform prayers at the site.
