Itamar Ben-Gvir visits Palestinian detainees at Damun Prison
Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir visited the cells of Palestinian female detainees at Damun Prison near Haifa. During the visit, which was broadcast by Israel's Channel 14, Ben-Gvir expressed satisfaction with the harsh detention conditions.
When confronted by a detainee regarding poor treatment and difficult living conditions, Ben-Gvir stated that such suffering is ‘expected’ for those he classifies as terrorists. He argued that prisoners should not feel comfortable in prison, claiming that in the past, detainees lived in conditions akin to ‘hotels’ and requested luxury items like perfume.
Ben-Gvir also addressed the execution law passed by the Knesset in March. While noting that the law is legally in effect, he stated that no cases have yet met the necessary criteria for execution. He maintains that the law serves as an effective deterrent, making prisoners fear entering the Israeli prison system.
