Itanhaém former mayor João Carlos Forssell Neto dies at 79

João Carlos Forssell Neto, the former mayor of Itanhaém in the state of São Paulo, has died at the age of 79. He was undergoing treatment for cancer.

Forssell served two terms as mayor from 2005 to 2012. His political career also included two terms as a city councilman between 1983 and 1992. He was the son of Harry Forssell, who was also a former mayor of the municipality.

In recognition of his contributions to the city, the Itanhaém City Hall has declared three days of official mourning. His wake was scheduled to take place at the Itanhaém City Council.
