Norway sovereign wealth fund hits record profit amid warnings of market risks FAST-MOVING

The Norwegian sovereign wealth fund, managed by Norges Bank Investment Management, reported a record profit of 1.753 trillion NOK for the first half of 2026, representing a 9.4 percent return. This performance follows a difficult first quarter where the fund lost 1,270 billion NOK. The fund's total value reached approximately 22.695 trillion NOK by the end of June 2026.

Despite the record gains, CEO Nicolai Tangen issued a stark warning regarding the fund's vulnerability to extreme market scenarios. Tangen noted that the fund is heavily concentrated in technology stocks, including companies like Alphabet, Meta, Amazon, and Apple. He cautioned that a bursting AI bubble or a major economic depression could lead to a significant loss of value, potentially erasing up to 80 percent of equity investments, similar to the 1929 crash. Tangen stated that in the current global climate, a total wipeout of the fund is not entirely improbable.
