Itatiaia maternity hospital implements newborn eye screening

The Municipality of Itatiaia, through its Municipal Health Secretariat, has begun offering the 'Teste do Olhinho' (Red Reflex Test) for free to all newborns at the municipal maternity hospital. The screening is now conducted during hospitalization, prior to hospital discharge.

Previously, families had to schedule appointments and return to the Women's Clinic after discharge to receive the exam. The new protocol aims to facilitate access to neonatal care and allow for the early identification of ocular alterations, such as congenital cataracts, within the first days of life.
