ITBP rescues 12-member expedition team in Himachal Pradesh

A 12-member expedition team from the Kolkata-based mountaineering club ‘Himalaya’s Beckon’ has been safely rescued after becoming stranded on Mount Leo Pargil-2 in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh.

The group called off its summit attempt just below the peak due to severe whiteout conditions, continuous snowfall, and a team member suffering from altitude sickness. After returning to their base camp, heavy snowfall began at midnight, prompting the team to seek emergency assistance from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and local police.

The rescue operation was a collaborative effort involving the ITBP, local police, and area residents. To navigate the difficult terrain, local residents and two Nepali men assisted in opening a route to the stranded group. The ITBP also provided medical aid during the operation, and all members were successfully brought down to Nako village.
