The Delhi High Court has granted interim protection to ITC Limited, preventing the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) from cancelling the company's food licence. The legal dispute centers on the use of ‘100%’ claims on the packaging and advertisements of Aashirvaad MP Chakki Atta, including labels such as ‘100% Atta’ and ‘100% Madhya Pradesh Wheat’.

The FSSAI contends these claims are misleading, following a May 2025 advisory instructing food businesses to discontinue the use of ‘100%’ descriptors. While the FSSAI issued a show-cause notice to ITC on August 10, a Kolkata-based authority issued an improvement notice just three days later, demanding the removal of the claims within 15 days.

ITC has challenged the validity of the FSSAI advisory and argued that the improvement notice was issued prematurely, before the company could respond to the initial show-cause notice. The court is also reviewing whether it has the jurisdiction to hear the case, as the FSSAI maintains the notice originated from its Kolkata office. The matter is set for further hearing on September 9.
