Spain faces legislative hurdles over lobby laws and defense spending

The Spanish Government faces significant legislative challenges in the Congress of Deputies. A royal decree-law intended to regulate interest groups, or lobbies, was rejected by the lower house. This defeat could jeopardize access to European recovery funds, with potential losses estimated between hundreds of millions and up to 1.5 billion euros due to unfulfilled milestones with Brussels.

Simultaneously, Spain is preparing a major defense rearmament plan estimated at 32,000 million euros. This long-term investment aims to meet NATO's 2% GDP commitment and focuses on combat aircraft, missiles, naval vessels, and drone protection systems. For 2026, defense modernization programs are expected to see a significant increase in investment, with approximately 6,835 million euros committed to various projects including frigates and self-propelled howitzers.

In the private sector, the aeronautics company ITP Aero reported strong 2025 results, with an attributed profit of 132.6 million euros, representing a 6.85% increase, and a 17% rise in turnover to 1,882 million euros.
