Mehmet Fatih Tançalan arrested for money laundering

Mehmet Fatih Tançalan, known on social media as ‘Vanlı Kara Haydar’, has been arrested on charges of laundering assets derived from crime. The arrest follows an investigation by the Van Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into Tançalan's social media activities and his recent wedding to influencer Çağla Öz.

Authorities are investigating claims that Tançalan's lifestyle, characterized by luxury vehicles and extravagant displays of wealth, is inconsistent with his official financial profile. Specifically, investigators are looking into allegations that he brought unexplained income into the country via mail order methods from Dubai. The wedding itself became a focal point after social media footage showed an immense amount of gold being presented to the couple, with some reports estimating the value at approximately 44 to 45 million TL.

In his defense, Tançalan claimed that the gold used during the ceremony was ‘borrowed’ from a jeweler and returned afterward. He also asserted that his luxury lifestyle is supported by sponsorship deals and advertising revenue generated by his wife's influencer status. The Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) has been tasked with conducting a detailed audit of his assets and financial movements.
