ITRA Jamnagar hosts workshop on microbiome research and Ayurveda

The Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA) in Jamnagar, an institution under the Ministry of Ayush, conducted a three-day intensive workshop titled ‘Understanding Health and Wellness through Microbiome Research’ from September 9 to 11.

The workshop focused on integrating Ayurvedic knowledge with contemporary microbiome science to strengthen the scientific foundation of Ayurveda through interdisciplinary and evidence-based research. Discussions addressed the potential relevance of microbiome developments to preventive healthcare, specifically exploring how Ayurvedic concepts such as Agni (digestion and metabolism), Ahara (diet), and Prakriti relate to gut microbial communities.

Sessions were led by experts including Prof. Sharmila Mande and Dr. Tarini Shankar Ghosh, covering research methodologies and emerging scientific evidence. The event concluded with a brainstorming session led by ITRA Director Prof. Tanuja Nesari to identify future opportunities for collaborative and multi-centric research. A total of 52 faculty members and research scholars participated in the program.
