ITSA officials detained during student protests in Uxpanapa

Four officials from the Instituto Tecnológico Superior de Acayucan (ITSA) were detained by students and faculty at the Uxpanapa campus following the removal of coordinator Virginio Jaimes Lucas. The detained individuals included the academic director, the subdirector, the head of human resources, and a department head.

Protesters blocked the exit of the officials to pressure the institution regarding the leadership change. Due to the tension and the fact that demonstrators held the keys to the building, ITSA Director Javier Domínguez requested that the formal handover process be moved to the Uxpanapa Municipal Palace to ensure safety.

While students have alleged political interference by Mayor Martín Aguilar Cuéllar in the appointment process, Director Domínguez has denied these claims, stating the mayor only provided municipal facilities to prevent further aggression. The institution has not yet named a new coordinator, and the legal implications of the detention remain unconfirmed.
