ITTF Africa Senior Championships see mixed results for West African stars
The 2026 ITTF Africa Senior Championships in Tangier, Morocco, have produced contrasting outcomes for prominent West African table tennis players.
Sierra Leonean player Naomi Coker, 17, secured a 3-1 victory over Madagascar’s Hanitra Raharimanana during the Women’s Singles group stage. Coached by her father, Philip Coker, the rising talent continues to gain recognition on the international circuit despite infrastructure challenges in her home country.
In the men’s singles competition, Nigerian star Aruna Quadri was forced to retire during his Round of 16 match against Egypt’s Mohamed Elbeiali. The match was tied at 1-1 before an injury occurred during the third game. Despite attempting to play through the discomfort, Quadri was unable to continue, allowing Elbeiali to advance to the quarterfinals.
