ITU finalizes 6G roadmap and sets technology proposal timeline

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has concluded the pre-standardization research phase for 6G technology, also known as IMT-2030, following the 53rd meeting of the WP5D working group in Geneva.

This milestone marks the transition from technical framework development to the evaluation of candidate technologies. The ITU has released official templates for radio interface technology proposals and established a roadmap for the next phase.

According to the established timeline, the ITU will accept candidate 6G technology proposals from the start of 2027 through early 2029. Following this period, the organization will conduct independent evaluations, with the goal of passing a resolution on 6G technology options by early 2030.
