ITU-T adopts international standards for low-latency, energy-efficient AI networks
A consortium of Japanese telecommunications and technology companies has achieved international standardization through the ITU-T for network design guidelines aimed at the AI era. The group, which includes KDDI, NTT, 1FINITY, NEC, Rakuten Mobile, Oki Electric Industry, and Sumitomo Electric, led the development of Recommendation ITU-T Y.3335.
The new guidelines focus on creating low-latency and energy-efficient networks, specifically supporting the realization of All-Photonics Networks (APN). APN technology is designed to enable high-capacity, real-time data processing for sensors and robotics, serving as a critical foundation for physical AI and next-generation services.
By establishing these common technical requirements and network configurations, the standard aims to ensure global interoperability between different operators and regions. This framework is expected to facilitate the construction of multi-operator APN services and enable high-speed, low-power communication across wide-area locations.
