Ituango displacement: 100 people flee armed clashes in Antioquia

Armed clashes between FARC dissidents and the Clan del Golfo (EGC) in the rural areas of Ituango, Antioquia, have caused the mass displacement of approximately 100 people, including 59 families.

The violence, which stems from disputes over territorial control and illicit crops, has been concentrated in several rural districts, including La Filadelfia, El Torrente, La Rica, and San Luis. Reports indicate that the conflict escalated around August 15, involving the installation of explosive devices and the presence of armed groups in sectors such as Agualinda.

Local authorities and the Defensoría del Pueblo are working to provide humanitarian aid and characterize the affected population as they arrive in the municipal urban center. The Secretary of Security of Antioquia warned that further displacements may occur as hostilities persist. So far, the confrontations have resulted in the deaths of three members of illegal armed groups and one member of the public forces being wounded during security operations.
