Ituzaingó reports tax collection below 50% amid rising costs
The municipal government of Ituzaingó has admitted that local tax collection rates have fallen below 50%, a significant drop from the historical average of 70%. Juan Manuel Álvarez Luna, president of the Deliberative Council, confirmed the decline, noting that the municipality must now maintain essential services with a shrinking base of contributing residents.
Monthly expenditures for waste collection alone have reached $1.5 billion pesos. While the average monthly fee per household is approximately $30,000—intended to cover waste removal, lighting, health, and security—this amount is reportedly only sufficient to cover garbage collection services.
Álvarez Luna stated that many residents are postponing tax payments to prioritize basic necessities such as food and electricity. In response to the revenue shortfall, Mayor Pablo Descalzo has reportedly reinforced the municipal revenue department to improve collection efforts.
