ITV announces final installment of landmark ‘Up’ documentary series

ITV has announced the conclusion of its landmark documentary series with the upcoming release of ‘70 Up’. The final chapter of the project, which began in 1964, will feature two 90-minute films directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Asif Kapadia. Kapadia takes over the series following the death of the late director Michael Apted.

The series has tracked the lives of 14 individuals from diverse social backgrounds every seven years since they were age seven. The final installment will feature several original participants, including Sue Davis, Bruce Balden, and Tony Walker, though two original members, Lynn Johnson and Nick Hitchon, have passed away.

Alongside the main feature, ITV will broadcast two companion programs. ‘7 Up: The Story’ will examine the origins of the series and British society in 1964, while ‘70 Up: The Victorians’ will utilize rediscovered archive footage of 70-year-olds born during the Victorian era to provide historical context.
