ITV documentary series ‘Up’ concludes with ‘70 Up’

The long-running ITV documentary series ‘Up’ is reaching its conclusion with the release of ‘70 Up’. The landmark series, which began in 1964, has followed a group of participants every seven years since they were seven years old to observe the impact of class, environment, and fate on their lives.

Directed by Oscar-winner Asif Kapadia, this final installment succeeds Michael Apted, who directed the series until his death in 2021. The decision to continue the series was prompted by producer Claire Lewis after a participant, Nick Hitchon, requested a final interview shortly before his passing.

The new documentary revisits the remaining participants as they reach age 70. Among them is Tony, who reflects on his childhood ambition to become a professional jockey—a dream that was ultimately thwarted when he was told he had become too heavy for the sport.
