IU releases new digital single with tribute to friend and song on moving on

South Korean singer IU has released a new digital double single featuring the tracks ‘Unknown Planet’ and ‘Dear My Crazy Soulmate’.

‘Dear My Crazy Soulmate’ was written by IU as a tribute to her close friend of over 15 years, Yoo In Na. The song explores the concept of a ‘safe space’ within a friendship, expressing a desire to grow old together while embracing each other's unique qualities.

In contrast, ‘Unknown Planet’, arranged by Cloud Koh, utilizes a synth-powered instrumental to explore themes of moving on from a past relationship. The lyrics depict a mature perspective on parting ways, where the individual chooses to cherish memories of a relationship rather than attempting to erase them. Some listeners have speculated the song reflects IU's personal history following her reported breakup with Lee Jong Suk, though no official confirmation has been made regarding this connection.
