Meteorologists warn that Japan will endure a prolonged heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 40 °C in parts of Kyushu. The Japan Meteorological Agency and the Environment Ministry forecast a maximum of 40 °C in Kurume on August 3, while the wet‑bulb globe temperature (WBGT) is expected to reach 36 in Fukuoka, well above the danger threshold of 31.

In response, Fukuoka Prefecture issued a heatstroke alert for the whole prefecture, urging residents to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activity during peak heat, and use air‑conditioning. Similar warnings were issued for surrounding municipalities, including Kurume, Yame and other cities.

Separately, emergency services in the Hiroshima region reported that 13 people were transported to hospitals with suspected heatstroke after temperatures rose to 38.3 °C in Akiota Town and 37.6 °C in Fuchu City. Authorities emphasized the heightened risk for the elderly, children and those with pre‑existing conditions, and called for community monitoring of vulnerable individuals.
