Živa Remic Wins Slovenia’s First Gold at European U18 Athletics Championships

Sixteen‑year‑old Živa Remic captured Slovenia’s first ever gold medal at the European Under‑18 Athletics Championships in Rieti, Italy, winning the women’s 800 m in 2:03.77. The performance broke the championship record, surpassing her 2:04.19 semifinal time, and marked the first gold for Slovenia since the event began in 2016. Remic also became only the fourth Slovenian to run sub‑two‑minute 800 m at this age level.

On the second day, 17‑year‑old Oriana Lovrec earned a bronze in the hammer throw with a personal‑best 67.02 m, giving Slovenia its fourth medal of the meet. The bronze added to earlier Slovenian silvers in the long jump and triple jump, highlighting a breakthrough year for the nation’s youth athletics programme. Both athletes are looking ahead to upcoming global competitions, with Remic targeting the World Under‑20 Championships in Eugene, USA later this summer.
