Ivan Hristanov announces presidential candidacy in Bulgaria

Former Bulgarian Agriculture Minister Ivan Hristanov has officially announced his candidacy for the presidency. Hristanov stated that his decision is the result of a preparation process that began 15 months ago.

He described his candidacy as a civilian and non-partisan movement, aiming to present a strong, popular position. He intends to run via an initiative committee that will include various public figures, including musician Denis Rizov from the rock band Ahat. While Hristanov confirmed that a vice-presidential candidate has already been selected, the individual's identity will remain confidential until the official filing of documents.

During his campaign, Hristanov plans to focus on social issues and the state's treatment of vulnerable groups, specifically mentioning orphans and pensioners. He also criticized the historical politicization of the presidency, arguing that the office should remain depoliticized. He emphasized that the presidential veto should be used as a tool to protect citizens' interests against legislation that favors oligarchs.
