Ivan Hristanov launches independent presidential campaign in Bulgaria

Ivan Hristanov, a former Minister of Agriculture, has officially entered the presidential race with the campaign slogan ‘The President of the People’. Hristanov, who served in the Kiril Petkov government and the caretaker cabinet of Dimitar Glavchev, is running as an independent candidate to ensure the presidency remains a non-partisan institution.

Hristanov emphasized that his campaign is not a spontaneous decision, noting that preparations began 15 months ago through discussions with various political formations. He expressed a desire for a transparent process, previously proposing a public debate for all candidates to present their platforms to a large audience.

Distancing himself from other contenders, including the duo of Andrey Gyurov and Georgi Kandev, Hristanov stated that he does not share the same electorate and is not competing for the same voter segment. He aims to reach the second round of voting, positioning himself as a figure independent of both the ruling government and the opposition.
