Ivan Hristanov names demography expert as vice presidential candidate

Ivan Hristanov, the former acting Minister of Agriculture, has officially announced Associate Professor Dr. Stoyanka Cherkezova as his running mate for the upcoming presidential elections on October 25. Cherkezova is a demography expert from the Institute for Studies on Population and Humanity at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

Hristanov stated that his choice was motivated by Cherkezova’s 20 years of research experience and her expertise in demographic policies. He emphasized that the presidency should advocate for specific causes, identifying the reversal of Bulgaria’s demographic trend as the nation’s most critical issue.

Hristanov noted that his campaign preparation began 15 months ago to ensure transparency and allow voters time to evaluate his positions. He positioned himself as an independent figure, aiming to appeal to a broad electorate beyond narrow political spectrums, and expressed confidence in reaching the runoff stage.
