Ivan Milat investigation expands to potential dozens of additional murders

Police are investigating whether notorious Australian serial killer Ivan Milat may be responsible for dozens of additional murders, more than 35 years after his first victims were discovered.

Milat, known as the ‘Backpack Killer,’ was convicted of murdering seven backpackers. His crimes came to light in September 1992 when the remains of British backpackers Caroline Clarke and Joanne Walters were found in Belango State Forest. Milat typically targeted travelers by offering transport before incapacitating and murdering them in the forest.
