Ivan Perišić incident sparks debate after PSV loss to Twente
During a Dutch Eredivisie match between PSV Eindhoven and FC Twente, an incident involving PSV player Ivan Perišić has sparked significant debate in the Netherlands. In the 66th minute, following a physical duel, Twente captain Robin Pröpper pushed Perišić, who responded by striking Pröpper in the face with his hand.
Referee Serdar Gözübüyük issued Perišić a yellow card for the incident, allowing him to remain in the game. However, former international referee Mario van der Ende and other Dutch experts have argued that the player should have received a direct red card.
Following the match, Robin Pröpper admitted to intentionally attempting to provoke Perišić, stating, “I was trying to provoke him. Sometimes teams need exactly that.”
The match ended in a 3-2 victory for Twente, marking PSV's first loss of the season. PSV currently sits in third place in the league standings.
