Ivan Sokolov finishes last at Wijk aan Zee 2013 tournament

Bosnian-Herzegovinian Grandmaster Ivan Sokolov experienced a difficult performance at the 2013 Wijk aan Zee chess tournament. Competing in an elite field, Sokolov finished in last place (14th) after 13 rounds, accumulating only three points and failing to secure a single victory.

Sokolov began the tournament with three draws, including a match against American Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura. Following that draw, he suffered a series of losses characterized by collapsing positions and tactical errors. One notable game analyzed is his fifth-round match against Levon Aronjan, played using the Grünfeld Defence, where Sokolov was forced to resign on move 24.
