Ivana Španović targets gold and record at European Championships in Birmingham

Serbian long‑jump record holder Ivana Španović has switched her focus to the triple jump and is preparing for the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, England. She entered 2026 with a national triple‑jump record of 14.41 m and says she is healthy and in good form, though she has only a year of experience in the event. Španović and her coach Goran Obradović are aiming to improve further and contend for the gold medal.

The championships begin with qualifying on 10 August, followed by the final on Thursday. Španović noted the competition includes strong European rivals, such as Romania’s Diana Ana Marija Ion, who holds the Serbian outdoor record of 14.56 m. She expressed confidence that her adrenaline, focus and experience will help her achieve a top‑place finish and possibly a new personal and national best.
