Ivana Sajko’s “Grad dobre nade” Examines War, Humanity and Hope

Bosnian author Ivana Sajko’s latest work, the novel “Grad dobre nade”, brings together her dramatic trilogy—including the earlier book “Zadnji dan mira”—to probe the persistent questions of war, suffering and human dignity. Through vivid scenes she reflects on contemporary conflicts such as the war in Ukraine and the genocide in Gaza, the plight of millions displaced from their homes, and the broader sense of existential threat that haunts modern life. Sajko’s prose seeks to break the complacency of everyday existence, urging readers to confront the harsh realities of violence and to consider the possibility of hope amid pervasive despair.
