Ivanna Ortiz deemed competent to stand trial for Rihanna shooting

A Los Angeles judge has ruled that Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 36, is mentally competent to stand trial for the March 8 shooting at the Beverly Hills-area residence of Rihanna and A$AP Rocky. The ruling follows several months of psychiatric evaluations that had temporarily suspended the criminal proceedings.

Ortiz faces a grand jury indictment on 14 felony counts, including attempted murder, 10 counts of assault with an assault weapon, and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper. Prosecutors allege that Ortiz drove a Tesla to the property and fired at least 20 rounds from an AR-15-style rifle.

During the incident, bullets struck an Airstream trailer where Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were located, as well as the exterior wall of a nursery where the couple’s three young children were staying with a nanny. No injuries were reported. Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott stated that the suspect “wanted to kill Rihanna” and that others were “collateral damage.” Ortiz has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody with bail set at approximately $2.6 million.
