Ivanovo, Russia: Firefighter killed in industrial building blaze
A major fire at a mattress manufacturing facility in Ivanovo, Russia, resulted in the death of one firefighter and left four others injured. The blaze broke out at a facility on Kosyakova Street, initially covering 900 square meters before spreading to an area of 4,800 square meters.
During the firefighting efforts, a structure within the building collapsed, trapping one official under the debris. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that the fire was fully extinguished by 17:36. The operation involved 71 personnel and 19 units of equipment.
Emergency services noted that firefighting efforts were complicated by the building's complex layout and construction. The rapid spread of flames was exacerbated by a large volume of flammable materials and the absence of automated fire protection systems. A criminal case has been opened regarding death caused by negligence in the performance of professional duties.
