Ivaylo Mirchev accuses Bulgarian authorities of obscuring national security threats
Ivaylo Mirchev, co-chairman of the 'Da, Bulgaria' party, has accused the Bulgarian government of failing to identify the sources of threats to national security. Mirchev criticized President Iliana Yotova, alleging her political campaign is built on lies and division, specifically citing her past decision as Vice President to pardon a drug trafficker.
Mirchev claimed that while Yotova relied on medical commission findings to justify the pardon, the commission itself did not recommend it; rather, the recommendation came from the pardon commission to the President. He compared the medical records of the pardoned individual to those of Ratko Mladic, noting that Mladic was significantly more ill than the drug trafficker. Nadezhda Yordanova has reportedly filed a signal with the prosecutor's office regarding this matter.
Furthermore, Mirchev accused the administration of being passive toward Russian hybrid threats, including drone strikes on ships in the Black Sea and the burning of Starlink antennas near Sofia. He noted that while Lithuania has identified such incidents as Russian hybrid attacks, Bulgaria has not clearly distanced itself from these actions or aligned with the European Council's position.
