Ivaylo Mirchev says Democratic Bulgaria will not join GERB for presidential ticket

Ivaylo Mirchev, co‑chair of the Democratic Bulgaria coalition, told a briefing that the alliance will not pursue a joint presidential candidate with the GERB party. He said no such nomination has ever been discussed and that a presidential contender must be able to unite a broadly divided Bulgarian electorate, making a party‑list ticket unrealistic.

Mirchev added that Democratic Bulgaria, the "Continue the Change" movement and the Forum for Democratic Action are coordinating their efforts and holding organisational meetings ahead of the upcoming presidential election. The eventual candidate will be announced by the coalition itself when a decision is reached. He also dismissed any link between the inclusion of the Tŭrkiš petroleum project in Black Sea oil‑gas studies and the freezing of the Botash contract, noting the process predates the current government.
