Ivette Vergara released after reckless driving detention
Television presenter Ivette Vergara was released following her detention for reckless driving after being caught traveling at 161 km/h on the Costanera Norte highway in Chile. The speed limit for the route is 100 km/h.
Vergara was detained by Carabineros and held at the 37th Police Station in Vitacura. During her hearing at the Santiago Justice Center, prosecutor María Cecilia Pino formalized the charge of reckless driving, noting that the speed exceeded the limit by more than 60 km/h. The prosecution confirmed the accuracy of the radar gun measurements used during the operation.
Vergara addressed the media following her release, acknowledging the infraction but criticizing the media coverage. She suggested that speeding is a widespread issue on the Costanera Norte, stating, “Anyone who tells me they haven't gone on the Costanera Norte at more than 100 kilometers per hour” is likely mistaken.
A court hearing is scheduled for October 26 to discuss potential legal alternatives, such as a conditional suspension of the proceedings.
