IVF Australia to close Canberra clinic by end of year

IVF Australia has announced the closure of its Deakin clinic in Canberra, scheduled for the end of the year. The decision has caused significant uncertainty for patients in Canberra and southern New South Wales seeking reproductive assistance.

Clients have until 16 December to arrange alternative storage for their embryos, eggs, and sperm. The closure presents logistical challenges for families, particularly those requiring frequent testing or those unable to travel to other locations for surgery.

Regarding donor sperm, IVF Australia stated it would facilitate the export of remaining sperm to another clinic only if an upcoming frozen embryo transfer is successful. If the transfer fails, the company will not permit the transfer of donor sperm to another provider as it remains part of their donor program. However, the company has offered to review reimbursement options for unused donor sperm resulting from the closure.
