IVF Australia to close Canberra regional treatment hub
IVF Australia has announced the closure of its Canberra clinic in Deakin, effective December 16. The facility serves as the primary treatment hub for patients in several regional areas, including Goulburn, the Southern Highlands, Wagga Wagga, Albury, Griffith, and the Snowy Mountains.
The decision follows the departure of two specialist doctors who have chosen to partner with a different provider. A spokesperson for IVF Australia stated that attempts to secure new specialists or alternative premises were unsuccessful. Patients currently undergoing treatment can complete final embryo transfers until December 21.
While the clinic is closing, IVF Australia will continue to store eggs, sperm, or embryos at other locations until instructed otherwise by patients. ACT Health Minister Marisa Paterson noted that the closure would likely cause distress and uncertainty for families navigating the personal challenges of fertility treatment.
