IVF technology advances through AI and time-lapse imaging
Advancements in In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) technology are shifting the focus from increasing the number of procedures to improving the precision of embryo selection and treatment. According to Prof. Dr. Bülent Tıraş of Acıbadem Maslak Hospital, modern laboratory methods now allow for much more detailed monitoring of embryonic development.
Key innovations include time-lapse imaging systems, which allow embryologists to monitor embryo development continuously without removing them from their specialized environment. This creates a visual record of cell division and growth rates. Additionally, artificial intelligence is being utilized to analyze these images, assisting specialists in evaluating embryo quality and determining which embryos are most suitable for transfer. While AI provides data-driven support, medical professionals emphasize that the final decision remains with the physician and embryologist.
