IVIC operates Venezuela's only active White Room for regenerative medicine

The Cell Therapy Unit (UTC) of the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research (IVIC) has consolidated its role in regenerative medicine through its White Room facility. This is the only active facility of its kind in Venezuela and one of the few in Latin America designed for processing stem cells under international standards.

The infrastructure operates under ISO 5 standards, utilizing ultra-pure air filtered by HEPA systems and laminar flow cabinets to ensure a sterile environment. Experts note that because processed mesenchymal stem cells are classified as medicines, they require pharmaceutical-grade quality controls to ensure patient safety.

Currently, the unit implements free clinical protocols for the regeneration of bone, skin, cornea, periodontal tissue, and dental pulp. These procedures are supported by bioethics committees and involve coordinated work between researchers, quality control personnel, and medical professionals from various hospitals. The IVIC also continues to offer postgraduate training in stem cells and regenerative medicine to foster scientific talent in the country.
