Iván Castro Sobrado dies during exercise in Chapela
Iván Castro Sobrado, a 46-year-old rowing coach known as ‘Pincho’, passed away on Monday afternoon after suffering a cardiac arrest while exercising in Chapela, Redondela. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. near the Arealonga promenade while he was running with members of the Chapela Rowing Club.
Emergency services were called to the scene, but medical personnel could only confirm his death. The community is in mourning, and the organizers of the X Chapela Rowing Day have announced the cancellation of the event scheduled for Saturday, September 26, in his honor.
Castro was a well-known figure in the region, serving as a coach for youth categories and having been a key figure in establishing the panoramic tourist bench in Cedeira. At the time of his death, the area was experiencing high temperatures, with recorded maximums reaching 34 degrees Celsius.
