Iván Cazarín Molina, CJNG regional leader, ordered into pretrial detention

Iván Cazarín Molina, known as 'El Tanque', a regional leader for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), has been placed in pretrial detention by a federal judge. Following his arrest in Zapopan, Jalisco, a judge ordered his transfer to the Altiplano federal prison in Almoloya de Juárez, State of Mexico.

The Federal Prosecutor's Office (FGR) has charged Molina with organized crime, health crimes, and the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Authorities identify him as a key figure in the CJNG, allegedly managing operations across the states of Veracruz, Oaxaca, Tabasco, and Puebla. He is also linked to fuel theft (huachicol), money laundering, and a 2015 attack on a Mexican Army helicopter.

Molina was previously sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department in September 2024 due to his ties to the cartel. He is considered a close associate of the cartel's former leader, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias 'El Mencho'. The judicial process is ongoing, with a hearing scheduled for October 13 to determine his formal legal status.
