Iván Cepeda acknowledges corruption within Petro administration

Senator Iván Cepeda, a leader of the Pacto Histórico, has identified corruption as the most serious problem facing his political movement during the administration of Gustavo Petro. Speaking in an interview and during congressional sessions, Cepeda emphasized the need for self-criticism and the responsibility of his sector to provide explanations to Colombian society regarding these "grave" incidents.

While Cepeda noted that corruption is not exclusive to his party or the current administration, he maintained that the occurrences during this period necessitate public accountability. He also suggested that some corruption scandals have been presented to the public in a "biased and fallacious" manner by political opponents.

In response, former senator Paloma Valencia criticized Cepeda’s statements, arguing that his admissions confirm long-standing allegations made by the opposition. Valencia asserted that these irregularities must be investigated and sanctioned, stating, “The facts are not manipulated, they are investigated, they are sanctioned and they must be paid for in prison.”
